What a sweet idea. Mine come from The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri where she describes these great Indian feasts made of simple, familiar food. They’re communal, familial, and warm, and I think they helped convince me to visit India. Just thinking about it makes me want a monster bowl of curry. Readers, how ‘bout you?

Most of my favorite literary food scenes are in Ruth Reichl's first memoir, Tender at the Bone, but I'm also a big fan of the food descriptions in Brian Jacques's Redwall series of kids' books. Seriously, I think those books shaped my food outlook forever.

English Major: I LOVE Tender at the Bone and Reichl's second, Comfort me with Apples. I also just remembered Laura Esquivel's Like Water for Chocolate. That's probably the one that make me obsessed with food writing.
