The article by that farmer was really interesting (and well-written too!). Now I don't know what to think (except that growing food in my backyard using compost from my food scraps is still a very good idea).

And yay that we are buying less bottled water! Good news indeed.

That Time Magazine article was really good, although they got tricked by the same 2004 study that tripped up the NY Times' Tara Parker-Pope back in 2007 ("A High Price for Healthy Food"): the study by Adam Drewnowski that tried to make the case that junk food was less expensive than healthy fruits and veggies.

Drewnowski made this claim based on the cost of foods on a per-calorie basis.

Duh. By that measure, a 3-pound bag of carrots would cost a fortune, and Doritos would of course be cheap! Never mind that you can buy the carrots for 33c a pound and the Doritos cost $3.29 for a 12-ounce bag.
