Double Yolk Happiness

Yesterday, Husband-Elect and I made breakfast burritos. Our first two eggs were normal, everyday kinds of eggs. But the next two?

Two double yolks! In a ROW! Gah! What are the odds?!? (Please don't tell me if they're actually very high.)

Anyway, we played the lottery (and lost), but Betty White was incredible on SNL, and I like to think that pair of double yolks had something to do with it. Or not. Happy Mother's Day!

I know you said not to tell you, but it's great news! Growing up we had chickens and they almost always produced double yolks for us. Keep the hens well fed and well cared for, and they'll do the same for you! ;)

I have no idea if it's rare or not. But once I had an entire dozen of double yolks. Special chicken farm?

It's a Mother's Day miracle!

I think it's a sign that you two were meant for each other :-) Or, that twins are in your future!!

Supposedly double yolks occur at the rate of 1 in a thousand. Like Heather, I once got an entire dozen like that.

And I do have twins :)

I also had an entire dozen of double yolk eggs! Never did find out what it meant.

My husband eats three egg whites every morning and has lately come across quite a few double yoke eggs. Hope this is not due to the fact that the hens are fed too many hormones...

I believe it happens more often when the hens are young, just beginning to lay eggs.

When I was a kid in Singapore, I had a Malaysian nanny who used to take care of me when my mom was at work. She once made me eggs for breakfast and got two double-yolked eggs; she was SO excited and happy for me that she hugged me right on the spot and talked about it for days. It is, I learned, very, very good luck in Malaysia!

I LOLed at this entry. Too cute. I recently cracked my first double-yolked egg, too.

Ma thinks we're having twins, too. I don't know whether to be excited or start stocking up on diapers.

I actually got about 6 double yolks out of a dozen once. No kidding! Then about 4 weeks ago I had 3 doubles.

As my dear sweet hubby said, "Those are some kind of mutant birds." It's kind of scary when you think about it.

Funny, I had a dozen that had several double yolks in it recently too. My local coop was out of the brand of organic eggs I usually buy, so I got a different brand. I don't remember what farm the different one was, but that was the dozen with the doubles.

No clue what does it, but we used to buy a brand of Omega-3 eggs (Nellie's?) that had a lot of double yolks, as well -- maybe one out of three.
