Technical Problem?

Sweet readers,

A few kind folks have brought a readability issue to my attention. It seems that sometimes, a sidebar ad appears, expands, and doesn't contract, obscuring the content in the center column.

Is this happening to a lot of people? I use Safari and Firefox, and have never seen it. Maybe it's happening to computers with Explorer?

Just wondering, so we can pinpoint the problem area.

Thanks!
Kris

Yes, I have encountered the content obscuring ad issue multiple times. I visit your site via Explorer at home and work and have experienced the problem in both places.

Hope it gets worked out!

Yes, I've had that problem with IE. Sometimes if I click on the ad, and then return to CHG later, after visiting another site, the banner stays put. Hope you can get it fixed!

yeah it happens to me constantly with Explorer, the damn blogher side bar add expands out onto the page so you can't read the article. It usually seems to be limited to a browsing session though. I can refresh as many times as I want, or go to other pages of the site and follows me, but when I log on next week, it won't show at all.

Are you opted out of expanding ads on BlogHer? There's a little check box if you want to have less annoying ads. lol I opted out for all of my blogs.

Yeah, it happens to me all the time with Explorer.

Okay, sweet. It's definitely an issue with Explorer. We'll start working on it today, and I apologize for the visuals. Thanks, everybody!

I have never had this problem. I use Flock, Firefox, and Chrome (depending on my need), and have decided in my web developing that most problems can be directly linked to Explorer.

Run your site through Browsera (web-based, and free for just doing a single checkup). That will showo you what it looks like in all browsers.

yes! this has happened to me, but i find that if i don't let my mouse anywhere near it when clicking on your site, it doesn't happen....

Problem is definitely with older versions of IE. Version 8 looks good as it conforms with CSS standards for the most part. We'll have a fix for IE 7 up today.

Versions 7 and 6 still have, and always will have, known layout and security issues, and Microsoft recommends updating to IE 8. Most designers have left IE 6 in the dust as an unsupported browser given how difficult it is to mash nice designs into its crazy CSS behavior, but luckily only 8% of the population is still using it.

Hi Kris,

I am using IE and have noticed that the blogher add also. I have resolved it by refreshing a few times so that the add changes.

Excellent, sturtus! You are one smart and virile IT guy. In gratitude, I will marry you in September.

While this might sound snarky, this is just proof (again) why IE should be ditched in lieu of better browsers.

I have NOT had that problem on either of my computers. I use the latest version of IE.

I use Firefox and I'm not having the column issue. However in the last month I've noticed the site seems to load slower, with the blue background showing through the blog text for longer. Maybe this is a result of your increased traffic keeping your host busy?

Yes, I have that issue many times site via Explorer at work.
