Maybe it's age, having cooked more than a few Thanksgiving dinners, or a desire to keep it simple and traditional, but I can easily overlook all the articles and/or recipes for Thanksgiving. I've found that my family most appreciates the old-standby, traditional dishes. They aren't opposed to new things, but the traditional must be there.

My biggest problem has been Thanksgiving dinner for the very small family. We can easily end up with way too much food -- more leftovers than we can consume in a reasonable amount of time (or without getting sick of them). My solution is to serve the "must-haves" on Thanksgiving and making sure that the others appear sometime during the holiday season. Funny thing is, many of those dishes are appreciated more when they appear apart from the big meal.

If anyone wants a better-than-average pecan pie, check out the Pecan Pie with Kahlua & Chocolate Chips on epicurious.com. Maybe not cheap or healthy, but definitely good!!

Missy -- my daughter just made a pecan pie with bourbon and chocolate chips. It was good, but one small slice once every year or two would do it for me. So rich!

I am really glad I came across this incredible post. Every year, I always try to serve something different during Thanksgiving Day and online recipes really help me a lot. Last year, I found this chocolate cake recipe and did it. It was the center of attention, next to the turkey of course! So, thank you for all these. I hope I will find something special but easy to do.
